Mardi Gras

Today is Mardi Gras, so we had a dinner full of gras (fat). The dad made fried chicken, which I was skeptical about because how can a French make fried chicken as good as where I am come from in the South? But alas, I was pleasantly surprised, and it was good fried chicken! He then made potato fries, which is a classic for me from home, so that's always yummy. Then dessert, he went all out and made beignets and la tarte au citron meringue!

The beignets were slightly weird because he put apples in the middle, but it was an interesting addition. I like just the plain sweet fried ball of dough though! And then the meringue... I don't know how to explain really, but there were three layers. Well first he made the pie crust of course, then the layer of lemon cream, then the meringue, which has a crispy/melt in your mouth layer on top and a fluffy cloud in between... that's how I explain it! It was délicieux!

As for today... the girl didn't have school, so I stayed home, but a classmate texted me later saying we didn't have class either, so that worked out. I did my laundry, the kid's sheets, and ironed their clothes. I also watched Inception because I wanted to watch it again. I planned a Mardi Gras themed English lesson too. I was pretty bored by evening, and I am not excited for tomorrow because I have to stay home again!
